Icíar Bollaín: 'Hola, estas sola? covers two months in the life of the protagonist, La Niña. During this period she finds love and loses it again, rediscovers her mother after a long time and loses her again and finds a friend who will remain a true friend for life. La Niña, twenty years old, leads a life as she wants, a life with her contemporary Trini, without mutual commitments. They don't have any grand ideas about life. Life is simply about "doing". Together they live for their feelings, because that is most important. They don't read the newspaper, never watch TV except, in the case of Trini, when it works as a kind of anaesthetic for the pain. Their logic is practical, direct, candid. They believe in what they say and make decisions on the spur of the moment. La Niña has a lovely romance with Olaf - because she once wanted to lie in the arms of someone the size of a bear. La Niña takes a trip with her loved ones. They travel round without knowing exactly where they are going, how they will get there or how long they will stay. The logic of the story is that of the protagonists. The logic of their age: twenty. The viewer sees Madrid, the streets, the bars, the cityscape, the roads and stations, Malaga or Valladolid, from their point of view.'
