Very symbolic film, balancing between fact and fiction, looking back on this century's Spanish history. In a villa near El Escorial a family tries to refresh the memory of Antonio, who was injured in a car crash. Their primary motive is that he is the only person to know the secret number of a Swiss bank account. The desperate attempts of the family to remind him of traumatic events through shocking confrontations provides burlesque confrontations. Saura uses flashbacks to evoke the background to Antonio's life.
