Kevin Brownlow: ‘This film is about the silent film period of Abel Gance, whose name was unknown in England in the sixties. His J’accuse, La roue and Napoléon play a major role in my film. In addition, Abel Gance gives an interview, as does protagonist Albert Dieudonné. The material of Napoléon that found its way into this film had not yet been restored at that time, so the quality is not what it should be. And the chase on Corsica goes the wrong way! But there is also rare archive footage of the filming of Napoléon.’
