The first part is set in Rome, where Moretti visits his favourite neighbourhood Garbetella. ‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful to make a film with only pans of houses?’ he wonders. In part two, he visits a friend on the island of Lipari who has studied James Joyce’s Ulysses for eleven years and hasn’t watched television for thirty. In the third part, Moretti films his own chemo-therapy and tries various other cures and therapies. is a heterogeneous yet coherent film, even in Moretti’s eyes, and he said that the three parts together form an archipelago with separate sections as islands: the neighbourhoods of Rome, the Aeolische islands and the doctors isolated in their specialisations and unable to communicate with each other or with their patients.
