The Wicked City is about nothing less than peace in the universe. Two parties are about to sign a treaty: on one side the powerful beings from a parallel universe, on the other side mankind. Security agents from both sides have to protect the delegates – that is a precondition for signing. But mysterious evil powers want to undermine the peace and keep Planet Earth open to possible invasion.The story is based on a famous Japan comic strip that was filmed previously in Japan in 1987, then as an animation film. The live-action The Wicked City made now truly opens a box of tricks. Just about every special effect the Hong Kong film studio had at its disposal are included. The makers also remarked that the film is a metaphor for what lies in wait for Hong Kong after 1997.
