--In a wonderfully controlled way evocative of the best of Robert Bresson, Sohrab S. Saless sketches the everyday life of a boy about ten who grows up as the son of a prostitute. The boy lives with his mother in the old Berlin district of Wedding. They literally pass each other in the night. When the mother returns home late and wearily takes off her make-up, it is almost time for the boy to go to school. They both live harsh and lonely lives without grumbling.
