Nargis (played by the famous actress Faten Hamama) is about to leave for the United States. Her son, a physicist, and her daughter, a TV presenter, regard America as the land of dreams and they have persuaded her to follow them. With great sorrow, she says farewell to her friends and her mother, who lives in a home for the aged poor. But just before her departure, she can't find her passport and ticket. It is New Year's Eve and she has 24 hours to find her things. During her quest, she meets the strange Raouf, who works as conjurer and juggler in a nightclub. When she finally finds her passport, she takes an independent decision for the first time in her life. She discovers that the land of your dreams is the land where your dreams come true.
