Kit (Lau Ching-wan) is an angry young jazz player whose creative and artistic approach to his music makes him an outsider in the extremely commercialised music industry. His girlfriend, the singer Tracy (Carina Lau), also becomes estranged from him. After a heated quarrel with her he moves to a small flat in an old and neglected building in a poor neighbourhood. One evening he is strolling down Temple Street where performers and audiences pass by in the evenings – and meets Ah Man (Anita Yuen), a 19-year-old girl who performs with a small band. Kit’s pessimism and dissatisfactionconfront Ah Man’s almost childlike innocence and immense energy.Kit is even more amazed when he discovers that Ah Man had bone cancer when she was a child and was cured. Under her influence he slowly changes his outlook on life and falls in love with Ah Man. But when one night he asks her to marry him, he is felled by an unbearable pain in his belly.
