Intimate film with a novel poetic tone, largely set on a small and ageing freighter with only a small crew. The prota¡gonist Jacques is making one of his first trips as helmsman and he is fascinated by the captain, around whom a strange and mysterious atmosphere arises during the long and lonely days at sea. The captain sees in the young Jacques his own long-lost dreams, ideals and memories. But there is also rivalry around a woman, or rather around the photographic portrayal of an apparently ideal woman.Bleu Marine is remarkable for the striking, dream-like photography of cameraman Alain Marcoen. The poetic and literary mood is emphasised by the taciturn nature of the characters and the off-screen spoken texts from the (captain's) log and letters.
