Moral tale against the background of dusty towns in central California.Three vagabonds are on the run. Ronnie is a simple soul who does his best to fathom human nature. When he joins up with Rocky and Josy, he finds himself in the world of petty crime. As third wheel on the wagon of Rocky and Josy's romance, Ronnie mainly seeks solace in plucking at his ukelele. When things take a turn for the worse, Josy's loyalty shifts from Rocky to Ronnie. Ronnie hopes for a better life, but he has little influence on that. His naïve faith in humanity is his downfall when Rocky stirs into action.
