Sung entirely from the original 19th century libretto, a television opera about the 200-year-old vampire Ripley who plagues London after being woken by the din of pneumatic drills. In his new guise he becomes a hard-nosed businessman, but also has to continue to gratify his natural needs as a vampire.By putting singing actors into naturalistic surroundings, the production evokes a comparison with the films of Jacques Demy, but the exuberant special effects, made with advanced video effects, which accompany the vampire as his lusts are woken, is much closer to a music video.
