A poetic and musical film which does not want to be explained: a film like a dream. Regards de la Vierge comprises fragments from everyday activities which sometimes make way for acute situations. The Leitmotif is the rucurring image of a boy shuffling backwards; he seems to be dragging something heavy. His journey takes the viewer across asphalt, footpaths, grass and the floor of a living room. There is a woman, the mother, who only just has herself under control. Slowly it becomes clear that the boy is lugging the body of his sick mother. There are several text fragments in English but the film focuses on the visual aspect, on the combination of light and colour. The title is taken from the fourth part of the composition 'Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jesus' by Olivier Messiaen. Sections of this music have been used in the film.
