Like his widely praised Bilete lidz Tadzmahalai / Ticket to the Taj Mahal, screened last year in Rotterdam, Algimantas Puipa's latest film is also largely set in dreams, or at least dream-like events.A doctor establishes his practice in a country village in Lithuania where a cheerful chaos reigns. The local population often calls on his knowledge and not just about matters physical; he is often confronted with mental complaints - although not all the stories are sad ones. The film however suggests that the doctor is not much more 'healthy' than his patients. The film focuses on the location and reflects the mood of Lithuanian village life. Deserted railway yards, forests and country lanes dotted with industry and the interiors of houses all used for a purpose for which they were not built - an operating theatre seems to be in an old school. They all surround the characters as a glove fits a hand.
