The 20-year-old twins Armando and Beatriz work for the local fire brigade and live together. They don't have much to do in this rainy winter. Armando helps a neighbour who has lost her keys and exaggerates the encounter to Beatriz into a passionate romance. Beatriz buys a Walkman because she keeps hearing sounds, especially the crackling of flames. She coincidentally discovers that the sounds disappear when she kisses someone; she starts flirting with men. A fierce quarrel between Beatriz and the neighbour whom Armando is so fond of disrupts the brother-sister relationship. During Armando's birthday, Beatriz is not present; he goes looking for her...Fire is a very sober, simple and ironically narrated story with subtle and less subtle references to fire; for instance Armando and Beatriz both have fiery red hair.Joaquim Pinto: 'When you're a child, you think about love and love is a very simple thing: essentially it means not having noises in your head! That's the theme: keeping a cool head. Das Tripas Coraç+M+o starts like a comedy and finishes like a documentary; a documentary about people who are incapable of taking it easy when they can find no one to kiss.'
