A film about memories and the distortion of memories. The protagonist is a man who returns to the hotel where he spent part of his youth. The hotel, once built by his grandparents as a holiday resort for the rich people who came to the Swiss Alps, is about to be demolished. He wanders through the abandoned building and experiences in flashbacks the marvellous and magical world of his youth with amazing jugglers, an anarchist Russian princess, a know-all saleswoman in a kiosk, a strict yet righteous grandmother and many strange guests. With great verve, Schmid reconstructed the variety evenings as they were organised for the guests in which the German actress and singer Ingrid Caven gives several striking performances which alone are enough to make the film worthwhile.
