A few years ago, Crime Story was an extremely popular TV series, for which Ferrara once made the pilot episode. The series is striking for the colourful visual fantasy; you could call it stylistic eclectic - the clothes and the cars are largely from the fifties while the houses and offices are modern. Apart from that, Crime Story does what all police series do: encourage identification with the good guys and contempt for the bad guys. The hero is the prototype of the rough husky white go-getter and, as becomes a pilot, an attempt is made to position the hero and the main characters clearly. The bad guy Ray is at the head of a large mafia-like organisation which is involved with robbery, extortion and arms and drugs smuggling. The series is extremely violent, but the violence is not without humour. The music is loud, the sex casual and justice rules. The series is striking for the colourful visual fantasy; you could call it stylistic eclectic - the clothes and the cars are largely from the fifties while the houses and offices are modern.
