Italo Disco. The Sparkling Sound of the 80s

Without Italo Disco, no house music, no Chemical Brothers, no Daft Punk, right? Which illustrates how jaunty youth music can age with great dignity. With plenty of fun facts, this documentary offers an excursion back to an epoch when millions of Europeans indulged in synthesisers, catchy melodies, and bizarre English lyrics. It was a German record producer who came up with the genre label. With an appropriate mix of seriousness and irony, the comments are delivered by international trendwatchers, sociologists, and of course the pioneers themselves.

Although too often described as one of the least cool music styles ever created, this is a sparkling and catchy music documentary, accompanied by great 1980s graphics and visuals. Its futuristic claim now appears to be justified: in the present day, it is played again or sampled by many DJs. Next time you hear ‘Dolce Vita’, you will recognise more than just the lyrics.
