About the films

• La mort du poisson (Eva Lusbaronian, 2025)

  After the death of a fish, a daughter uses dance to try to pull her mother out of the grip of depression. As the mother sinks into her own darkness, the girl seeks a way to remain close to her nonetheless.

• Broken (Hyewon Jung, 2026)

  A broken doll – both literally and figuratively – reflects on the formative moments of her life during a group therapy session. The carefully crafted stop-motion animation brims with detail, telling the story of a lonely figure who gains new insights through vulnerability. The tone of this delicate film mirrors the materials used by South Korean director Hyewon Jung: light as white feathers, fragile as small figurines, and soft as sand.

• Paniek! (Timon Drost, 2026)

  In Panic!, four people openly talk about a panic attack they experienced. This short documentary takes you to the moment where they apparently lost control the most and how it came to this but also how they got over it and what they learned from it.

• Regen in Augustus (Ashley Röttjers, 2025)

  While the modern world continues to turn around her, everything seems to stand still for the lonely Jasmine. She misses her boyfriend, struggles with her emotions and feels isolated in her Rotterdam apartment. In this sensitive short film by filmmaker and photographer Ashley Röttjers – winner of the RTM Pitch 2025 and winner of the Filmprijs van de Stad Utrecht – we follow a day in Jasmine’s life, where visions subtly seep into the cinematic reality. After a chance encounter with a woman at a tram stop, something seems to shift within Jasmine, in this understated film about isolation and human connection.

• About the IFFR Filmclub

  Filmclub is a new initiative of IFFR, currently in the pilot phase, where (future) film lovers, young filmmakers and creatives come together to watch films and exchange interests. The idea is that the Filmclub will take place biweekly at various locations throughout Rotterdam, where a mix of (inter)national films, both new and true classics, will be shown in a relaxed setting in combination with discussions, workshops or parties. Whether you are discovering cinema for the first time or are already well on your way as a filmmaker, the Filmclub is a place to get inspired, network or just come and watch a film. The club works together with local communities throughout Rotterdam.
