Homeless

Baby Woo-rim’s parents are loving, well-groomed – and homeless. They spend every night in a Korean sauna while waiting for an apartment they can move into; but due to circumstances beyond their control, their money troubles just keep piling up. Then Han-gyeol comes up with a solution: there is a house belonging to an elderly woman that they can move into temporarily. So why does he jump every time the doorbell rings? And why is Go-woon absolutely forbidden from entering that one particular room?

Director Lim Seung-hyeun’s debut is based on his own experience: as a child, he and his parents lived for a time in saunas. Homeless is an indictment of the abysmal living conditions in Korea, where expensive flats are built at an incredible pace whilst young people can barely afford a roof over their heads, and no one is interested in the plight of the elderly. An honest, sensitive social drama, with here and there a touch of the supernatural.
