Juliana has just moved from her hometown of Itaúnas to a bigger city to work for a public health programme to eradicate dengue fever. On her new job, Juliana visits homes to check for mosquito hiding places, meeting a wide range of people, making friends and having new experiences that start changing her life. At the same time, Juliana feels she is losing her husband, who has remained in the backlands and whose presence in her life is fading.
This film about Juliana’s inner journey is a tale of an unpretentious but touching personal revolution. Long Way Home is André Novais Oliveira’s second feature film, again following his directorial signature: an accurate sensibility for capturing the delicacies of everyday life. Often successfully working with non-professional actors, Noviais brings Juliana to life thanks to an excellent performance by Grace Passo, one of the most important Brazilian actresses of the moment.
