The Eyeslicer slams into your eyeballs leaving them lacerated, confused and somewhat troubled. Um... what is this? A random YouTube short film playlist? A theme-free short film programme? The collection of some idiot with too much time on their hands? It is all the above, but mainly it’s non-hierarchic, yet heavily curated and features short films, animation, video art, advertising, music videos and anything else that qualifies as a moving image.
Dan Schoenbrun and Vanessa McDonnell made The Eyeslicer as a 10-episode variety TV show, consisting of various short films by the latest generation of American indie filmmakers. Instalments alternate with ads for The Eyeslicer, because: branding is everything. Varying from web series to award-winning short films there seems no end to the randomness; however, rhythm, dynamics and a clear love of the counterculture reveal it is less arbitrary than it seems.
During the marathon there will be games, cult film trivia, and prize giveaways in between certain episodes. And definitely don’t miss the special smell-o-vision episode (episode 8). Audience is able to walk in and out of the screening, but for the die hards who don’t want to miss anything there will be a dinner break.
