Horst Bonnet

Actor, filmmaker and musical-theatre director Horst BONNET (1931, Germany), the son of actor Franz Bonnet, appeared in several productions, short films and plays from the time he was six years old. He acted for several years throughout Germany, before turning his hand to directing, beginning with the play Marek im Westen (1952). Bonnet also worked as an assistant to Walter Felsenstein at the Komische Oper Berlin, and theatre directors Bertolt Brecht and Wolfgang Langhoff. He spent 13 months in prison for condemning the Warsaw Pact in 1968 and showing solidarity with socialism. He is renowned for his work staging plays, operetta and films, including Orpheus in der Underwelt (1974), which was initially staged at theatres throughout East Berlin.
