Caroline Leaf
Caroline LEAF (1946, USA) is a Canadian-American filmmaker, animator and artist, celebrated as one of the pioneering voices of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Working at the NFB from 1972 to 1991, she developed groundbreaking sand animation and paint-on-glass techniques, and later experimented with hands-on approaches using 70mm IMAX film. Her narrative-driven works, often rooted in Canadian culture, have been honoured at major festivals worldwide, including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the International Short Film Festival in Sweden, the Montreal World Film Festival and the Melbourne Film Festival. Leaf now lives in London, where she teaches at the National Film and Television School. Her film Interview (1979), co-directed with Veronica Soul, is included in IFFR 2026’s The Future Is NOW focus.
