Salomão Scliar
Salomão SCLIAR (1925–1991, Brazil) was a Brazilian filmmaker, photographer and editor active from the 1940s to the 1960s. He directed both documentary and fiction films while maintaining a prolific career as a photojournalist. Scliar worked with major Brazilian production companies including Atlântida, Brasil Vita Filmes and Companhia Cinematográfica Vera Cruz, contributing to national feature films before founding his own company, Horizonte Produções Cinematográficas, in 1949. His early works, among them the short Homens do mar (1945) and the feature Vento Norte (1951), are considered foundational contributions to the development of cinema in Rio Grande do Sul.
