Michal Kosakowski

Michal KOSAKOWSKI (1975, Poland) is a Polish-German filmmaker and media artist whose work moves fluidly between documentary, fiction and experimental cinema. His films often confront moral and social boundaries while exploring the relationship between violence, perception and representation. A graduate of Fabrica – the Benetton Research Center for Communication in Italy – he gained early recognition with Just Like the Movies (2006), winner of Best Short Film at the Milano Film Festival. His video installation Fortynine (2007) evolved into the feature documentary Zero Killed (2012), awarded at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. Kosakowski co-directed the horror anthology German Angst (2015), screened at major festivals including Rotterdam and Sitges. His latest project, Holofiction (2025), is part of the multimedia art series Dark Tourism, which examines contemporary modes of remembrance of the Holocaust.
