Mariia Ponomarova
Mariia PONOMAROVA (1991) is a Ukrainian film director, screenwriter and creative producer. She received her BA+ in directing and screenwriting at the Kyiv National I.K. Karpenko-Karyi University of Theatre, Cinema and Television in 2013. Mariia was part of the documentary movement Babylon’13 – cinema of civil protest during the revolution in Ukraine. Mariia followed the master’s programme at the Netherlands Film Academy, where she graduated in 2016. In 2018, Mariia’s short film Family Hour premiered at the Odessa International Film Festival, and the same year the film was selected for the Golden Calf Competition in the Netherlands. In early 2020, Mariia’s short film Good Boy premiered. The film had its international premiere at the Woods Hole Festival, played in Odessa, Sydney, Montana and the Dutch Film Festival and is currently travelling. Besides being a director and scriptwriter, Mariia is also a freelance creative producer and a member of the Documentary Association of Europe. Mariia lives and works in Amsterdam and Kyiv.
