Francesca Comencini

Italian director and screenwriter Francesca COMENCINI (1961, Italy) has directed 14 films since 1984. She studied philosophy but abandoned it in 1982 and started her career in filmmaking by directing her first feature, Pianoforte, which won the De Sica award at the 1984 Venice Film Festival. Her films made several other appearances and won prizes at international film festivals. Le parole di mio padre (2001) was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes and her 2012 and Un Giorno Speciale (2012) was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 69th Venice Film Festival. Besides fiction films, she also directed documentaries, such as Elsa Morante (1997) and Shakespeare a Palermo (1997). Il tempo che ci vuole (2024) premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
