Elmar Klos
Elmar KLOS (1910–1993, Czech Republic) was a Czech film director best known for his long-standing collaboration with Slovak filmmaker Ján Kadár. Working together for 17 years, they created some of the most celebrated works of Czechoslovak cinema. Their film The Shop on Main Street (1965) received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, while Death Is Called Engelchen (1963) won the Golden Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival. Their films often explored moral dilemmas, wartime trauma and human resilience. Klos continued directing into the 1970s and later taught film in Prague.
