Annemarie Jacir
Annemarie JACIR (1974) is a Palestinian filmmaker, writer and producer. Her short Like Twenty Impossibles (2003) was the first Arab short film to be selected for Cannes Film Festival. Her feature debut, Salt of This Sea (2008), premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. One of the leading voices in Arab cinema, she has written, directed and produced over sixteen films. Her features have been Palestine’s official Oscar entries, including When I Saw You (2012) and Wajib (2017), which won 18 international awards. Founder of Philistine Films, Jacir also teaches screenwriting, mentors regional filmmakers and curates independent cinema. Her latest feature Palestine 36 (2025) premiered in the Gala Presentations section at the Toronto International Film Festival and is Palestine’s submission to the 98th Academy Awards.
