What does the notion of decolonisation in moving image entail? Is it a defined framework of principles and mechanisms? Alternatively, is it an ever-evolving pursuit – a continuous conversation characterised by the persistent reassessment of inquiries? This discussion seeks to delve into the imprint of colonisation on visual representations and examine strategies used by contemporary creators to challenge and dismantle the Eurocentric dominance in filmmaking. In doing so, it aims to provide a understanding of the methods used in this transformative endeavour.
