Monuments narrates a fictional struggle between cinema and sculpture in the development of the work of Robert Smithson, Gordon Matta-Clark and Dan Graham. In retracing the history of their relationship to New Jersey, the film becomes an allegory for the effects that neo-liberalism and globalization have had on this society and landscape in the years since. A brainy, beautifully imagined film with an unexpectedly dry humour to boot.
