The young football captain Majid finds himself in a quandary which quickly becomes a quagmire. His tentative grasp on reality is well suggested by the schizoid visual styles we see competing in the film: objective and static wide shots, intermingled with nervous, jangling, variable-focus close-ups. Days before the town championship game, Faïza, the team president’s daughter, catches Majid’s eye – and that of the coach, too. Faïza, an avid football fan herself, makes her intentions clear. After being nearly sidelined, Majid triumphs in the game and wins Faïza’s heart. Yet here his troubles begin. When Majid must face his exams, determined to succeed again he resorts to certain substances that put him in a tailspin of frantic unpredictability. Everything crumbles while Majid lives out a dream of being a superstar for FC Barcelona, playing weekly in the Camp Nou stadium of his mind.
