Foxes

Tensions rise between the two Slovakian sisters, Alzbeta and Tina, who have both emigrated to Ireland. Something happened in the past which has to explain their lies and jealousy. The grim Slovak-Irish debut by Mira Fornay not only opens old wounds, it also shows how Alzbeta and Tina are treated like trash in Dublin. They are just like the foxes that have roamed the Irish capital for 100 years, but which Dubliners still regard as unwanted aliens. As such, Dublin represents all the European cities that have difficulty welcoming their immigrants.
Followed restlessly by shoulder-held camera, Alzbeta and Tina get barked at as waitresses in a chic hotel, or dance away their homesickness in an immigrant bar. Director and scriptwriter Mira Fornay was trained at the Prague FAMU and then attended a workshop by Abbas Kiarostami.
