The film has the tempo and mood of a classic mystery movie - it has something English about it, 19th century, even though the story is set in 1934. The design of the film is especially stylish and after Tears of the Black Tiger and Citizen Dog Sasanatieng has a name to live up to.
Two women face up to each other in this story. The simple, rural Nuan Jan (Siraphun Wattanajinda) is very pregnant and is looking for her husband who has disappeared. During her quest, she knocks on the door of the mysterious even ghostly house of the rich Ran Juan (Supornthip Choungrangsee). The rest of the story is also largely shaped by women; the men have either disappeared or are only present as spirits. For instance there is the pleasant housekeeper Choy (Visa Konska), but also the awful Miss Somjit (Tassawan Seneewongse).
Nuan Jan is told clearly more than once that she may not enter the main part of the house, but entirely according to the laws of the genre - in which danger always has a mysterious attraction - of course she does find herself there. Rumour has it that the rich woman has hidden her lover there. It is even whispered that the lover belongs to another world.
When the child of Nuan Jan is born, the mysteries in and around the house acquire even stranger forms.
