Via the Holy Virgin Mary, the viewer gets to see impressive pictures of pious Mexicans who confess their sins, or ask for forgiveness or help. The statue of Mary is taken from the altar in the church to the Indians so that people can pray, believe and hope in the interior too. The intimate character of the conversations gives the viewer an uneasy voyeuristic feeling. Sacrilege. Or is Venus a fake documentary; a credible fantasy by the director about what the intermediary ‘Mary’ sees and hears?
