Proekt inzhenera prayta is the debut film by Lev Kuleshov (1899-1970), who later became a classic Soviet film director and is particularly known for the invention of the famous editing method now known as the Kuleshov Effect. This film presented a host of scientific mysteries and puzzles which had to be solved during Izvolov’s reconstruction. The film has been the subject of numerous interpretations, commentaries and scientific theories. This is precisely why it was chosen as suitable material for demonstration of the new method of Digital Academic Film Commentary at work.
