‘Don’t be afraid of death / When you are old / and about to be eaten / by a coffin, / don’t / be afraid / of death. / Naa.’ This poem by Richard Brautigan begins this film by Andrew Kötting. It is a powerful, often uneasy reflection on the death of his father, his ‘Deadad’. A journey filled with personal memories, hidden stories, loss and reconciliation. On this journey, he carries two enormous inflatable statues with him of his father and his grandfather. Like gigantic gravestones, together with Kötting they visit the places that played an important part in his life. A bizarre road movie, occasionally comic, then melancholic.
