A unique cooperation between the cinephile film maker Guy Maddin and actress Isabella Rossellini. My Dad is 100 Years Old is a personal homage by Isabella to her father, Roberto Rossellini. His death (on 3 June 1977) left a gap in her life. From him, she learned the value of dreams, imagination and memories. In this film, focusing on Rossellini's significance as a film director and as a father, she takes on roles by the likes of Fellini, Chaplin and Hitchcock. This will be followed by a film by Rossellini himself. Roberto Rossellini (1906-1977) made his first features in a film industry controlled by Mussolini's son, Vittorio. After the war, he made the anti-fascist Roma, città aperta, a film that was later regarded as the start of neo-realism. Paisà and Germania anno zero pursued this tone. In the early 1950s, Rossellini married Ingrid Bergman, a liaison that produced a series of important films, including Viaggio in Italia. With a new relationship (with the Indian scriptwriter Sonali Das Gupta), a new period started for Rossellini too (also in India).
