Clear people are very ordinary people. But it is very special for ordinary people to be able to live in such beautiful light. Clear People is a film that is carried in its entirety by its photography, by the way in which light is captured. An apartment in an outer suburb. A girl lives with her grandmother and plays with her mobile phone. She has conversations too mature by half. The girl is crazy about the radio and about living with her mother. A fan, a summer shower in the afternoon and radiant sunlight. The film does not really have a story. Is more of a refined collection of everyday lives during the summer, captured by a static camera. The director reveals a cross-section of life in the city. The contrast between the bright sunlight outside and the darkness in the apartment are beautiful. Just as beautiful as the soundtrack, which seems to lead a life of its own, with its radio fragments and background noises. A film about looking and listening and about not always seeing and not always hearing. Not always wanting to see and not always wanting to hear. As if Vermeer were alive and well and living in Japan as a sound man. (GjZ)
