Metamkine is a collective that was founded 15 years ago in Grenoble and that has meanwhile built up an enormous reputation throughout the world with its projection performances. The collective is made up of Christophe Auger and Xavier Quérel, who both operate separate projectors (both 16mm and Super8), and Jérôme Noetinger, who is responsible for the soundtrack for which he used analogue synthesisers as well as tape loops and a series of objects that make sound. Metamkine regards itself more as a band than a group of performance artists. They play towards the audience, with the image being reflected by mirrors onto the screen. They play their equipment as instruments and, alongside pieces that have been rehearsed precisely in advance, improvisation and live interaction form an important part of their very rhythmic performances.
