One of the freedoms that the former communist countries have regained, together with their independence, is that of religion, which gave birth to new and old believers alike. Often those who in the old times proclaimed themselves to be devoted communists turned into devout Christians, a phenomenon that disgusted many people. The Estonian artist and atheist Ervin Ounapuu made this documentary contemplation on the subject. Here, he asks simple questions about the Christian religion, its symbolism, about the Supreme Being, and brings all these subjects under scrutiny and critical discussion. It is not easy to make documentaries on such a delicate matter, and often not appreciated. The director offers us his polemical standpoints. (LC)
