In 1988, the shy gay dentistry student Camiel has an altercation with Simon's Jeep. Simon is a rugged mean guy with a small heart; hash dealer, straight as they come. Simon takes Camiel to hospital and an unlikely friendship ensues. Later the two lose contact. When they bump into each other fourteen years later, Simon is severely ill. Camiel experiences from close-by how Simon and those around him come to terms with his illness. The strength and humour that Simon shows in this difficult time leave a lasting impression on Camiel. Terstall reveals himself to be a true chronicler of modern life in the Dutch capital. Subjects such as soft drugs, euthanasia and gay marriage are included. Simon won four Golden Calves at the last Dutch Film Festival, including the audience award. It is also the Dutch submission for the 2005 Oscars.
