Faust is German for ‘fist’. Faust were one of the first bands to use the recording studio as an instrument. In 1970, thanks to journalist Uwe Nettelbeck’s dedication, the record label Polydor set up a studio for Faust in an old schoolhouse in Wümme. A perfect setting for the band’s experiments with music and sounds. Among other things, Faust recorded a soundtrack for the silent film Nosferatu and cooperated with Tony Conrad.
