August Blom was artistic director of the Danish production company Nordisk and directed many of their box office hits. At the Prison's Gate (also known under the title Temptations of the Big City) was a breakthrough for Valdemar Psilander, who was to become the greatest male film star of that era. Psilander plays Aage, a young man who abuses the trust of his rich mother and runs the risk of succumbing to the temptations of the big city. He courts Stella, the daughter of his creditor. As soon as they are married, he carries on with his licentious life. He breaks into his mother's house and gets caught. Then Stella returns to her father and throws the bill of exchange that her husband has to pay in the fire. Then her father dies suddenly.
