Elliott Carter, a lifetime resident of New York City, represents almost a century of music history. Across the world he is considered to be one of the most important living composers, his work rooted firmly in the European tradition. The creative period in his life spans more than 70 years. In December 2004, Carter reached the age of 95, and he is still very active and creating new compositions. In A Labyrinth of Time, such luminaries as Daniel Barenboim, Charles Rosen and Pierre Boulez discuss Carter's music at considerable depth. This experimental documentary shows Carter's musical development and reflects his compositions in time. Director Frank Scheffer's latest film is laso included in this year's programme, as s his contribution to the Sound Bridges project: Streaming Past, Present Moments, based on a composition by David Shea.
