Dewey Fin (Jack Black) is a member of an unsuccessful hard-rock band. A typical slacker who would love to be a great rock star and thinks he can best serve society by rocking. But society has other ideas. First he hears from his best friend Ned (played by Mike White, scriptwriter of the film) that he should find a job to pay the rent, then he's chucked out of the band too. In order to earn a living, Dewey decides to pretend to be Ned's replacement as teacher for a class of 10-year-olds at a chic prep school. At first he gives all the children the day off, but when he finds out that many of them have been in the school band, he decides to change their roster of lessons into rehearsal time for the upcoming `Battle of the Bands' contest, with of course Dewey himself as the inspired front man. Of course there are many obstacles and of course everything works out. The School of Rock was received in the US as one of the most successful comedies of the year. The incomparable Jack Black may be better known as the rocking Tenacious D., regularly to be found in the hit parades. As usual, he gives his role everything and you could be forgiven for saying that he carries the film. 'An inspired, invigorating comedy that will have you laughing from its opening moments to its closing credits.' (Los Angeles Daily News)
