Compiled from previous newsreels, this film offered up the execution of dictators, war and natural disasters and atomic tests at Bikini Atoll for home consumption as a medley of greatest hits -a pre 50s TV dinner and a play at home quiz. Many of the images featured in Bruce Conner's A Movie (the death of Mussolini, the crash of the Hindenburg Zeppelin, Atomic explosions and several others) are seen in this reel -again reprised and cannibalised from earlier issues, so you will experience an example of anachronistic and compound déjà vu. And, in turn, this film and many other Castle Films specifically have been mined by experimental film makers like Ken Jacobs, Leslie Thornton, Kerry Laitala and Eve Heller. For example, the iconic Hindenburgh disaster appearing in countless films makes an important near deathbed cameo in Morgan Fisher's Standard Gauge.
