Paul Miller (a wonderful role by Paul Rudd) is a `struggling actor in Hollywood' and has had enough of it. He wants to die, as soon as possible. Before he gets that far, he decides to have one more documentary made about the last two days of his life. In this black comedy, he is followed by a camera crew who record how he says farewell to old friends. To Stephen, a soap actor who is suspected of secretly being gay. And of the slightly eccentric Nancy, who believes that, if she can persuade Paul to have sex with her, he will regain his lust for life. The hired crew decides while they are shooting that it may be their duty to save Paul. They call his parents and have them come over from New Jersey. Mr and Mrs Miller however seem more interested in finding the right restaurant than in their son's emotional state. The often ironic and comical, sometimes existential story is filmed from three different perspectives: through the 35mm camera of McGinly, through the DV camera of the documentary makers and finally by the Handycam of two students who are making a film about the documentary makers. Through McGinly's lens, Paul's world looks beautiful and attractive; the two other cameras film a very different side of reality.
