An exceptional portrait of a landscape in mourning. Horvath filmed in North Yorkshire during the dramatic plague of foot and mouth disease that devastated the traditional rural community in this area. Without contradicting them, he listens to the often strange and mystical theories with which local people tried to explain both the disaster and British agricultural politics. The film maker's profession was originally to photograph nudes, but that cannot be seen from this film - even though the landscape does look sensual.
