Mechanism is a political parable in which two people are sucked reluctantly into the depths of violence. The 'mechanism' refers to the cosmic whirlpool of chaos that rages through time like a self-propelled machine and drags along everything in its path.In Milosavljevic' second film, the Yugoslav people are in a kind of no-man's-land where life has no value and ethics are a forgotten concept. Innocents with good intentions who want to stay away from violence and chaos, still can't escape. The film is set on one winter day, far from the urban chaos. Mak is a taxi-driver near a remote station in the countryside. There are not many passengers, but that offers him the opportunity to come to terms with his war-time experiences. Colour slowly comes back into life. Certainly when Snezana arrives in the village. After six years waiting, she can finally start work in her first job as teacher. She is also filled with hope and faith. When Mak and Snezana meet the third character, someone with a lot less good intentions, the film develops from a kind of road-movie into a violent psycho-thriller. What follows is a harsh confrontation between good and evil, between those who believe in life and those who try to destroy it. The cynicism of senseless violence is portrayed in a radical and merciless way.
